Whether it’s a gentle chastising from a well-meaning spouse, a snide remark from a neighbor or a personal feeling of guilt or unrest with the way things are, it seems that change is often initiated when a person is inflicted by some aversive or unpleasant circumstance.
Could the trash BE any closer to the can?!?
Think about the last time you started a diet, learned a new skill, cleaned your bathroom or organized your finances. What was the catalyst that spurred you to take on this arduous task? Did you pleasantly wander into your office whistling a cheery tune while chirping cartoon bluebirds and squirrels helped you color code your messy file system?
I’m guessing it may have gone something more like this: ‘Grrrr! I need the tax receipts and I can’t find anything in this crazy mess. I need a system!’ Fast forward four hours… You’re alone, sitting in a pile of paperwork and pressboard pieces, assembling a new Ikea home office. Your family has gone to the movies, taking solace from your cleaning rampage. And your home office is in shambles. You waited for the dam to burst, and now, instead of paddling steadily upstream, you’re conquering a raging flood. Maybe sometimes it takes fury to ignite transformation.
Change is hard work!
So what. How did fury ever get such a bad rep, anyway? Apathy has never moved a mountain. What sparks change? Sadness, trouble, worry, doubt, a feeling that there is something better out there. The good news is that you can choose to harness that aversion, that great and powerful unrest. Guilt, fury and unrest are gasoline, giving you the power you need to ignite and fuel your transformation.
Champions spark change. So, get angry, get over it, get SPARKED and ignite your change!
It All Starts with a Spark!
