Well I can now officially say that I completed a triathlon! yay! On Saturday, I did the Reed’s Lake Triathlon. All summer I have been training for this event and I must say it is nice to get it over with! I was really really nervous about it the past week. I went back and forth telling myself it will be fine, and then changing to I am going to die! Anyways we got there and got all set up. There were so may bike racks! It was a really pretty morning and not super cold out so that was good. My boyfriend was in the first heat so he took off before me and I found girls wearing the same swim cap as me and waiting to get in the water.
When they called our heat I was in the front of the line and just stayed there. I probably would should of stayed more to the side or got to the back/middle of the pack but I was confident that being in the front was a good advantage…I was wrong! The horn blew and I dove in, before I knew it these girls were like climbing over my back and grabbing my ankles! I thought I was going to drown! The rest of the swim had the same theme of drowning! I was so filled with adrenaline and excitement that I couldn’t control my breathing! I just keep swimming
It was super tiring but a huge relief when I got out of the water!
Biking was my favorite part, but I didn’t go as fast as I would of liked to. A lot of men on super fast bikes passed me and yelled at me about what side to ride on. I would then ride on the side they told me to and then another guy would ride by and tell me the opposite! I thought it was funny and me and this other lady who rode near each other both laughed. My legs were burning when I was done biking and I thought there was no way I would be able to run 5 miles!
Hopping off my bike and starting the run was killer! Every part of my body was so tight, and my heart was beating faster than I could breathe. I got a boost of energy when I was my boyfriends family there cheering me on like crazy, my amazing family screaming that I can do it, and my co-workers with awesome signs yelling my name at the top of their lungs! I knew I had to finish the race and not walk. One mile dragged on but soon I was at two…I keep wishing that this was only a 3 miles run! At about 3.5 miles this awesome lady, named Amy I think came up to me and started talking to me. She told me she was going to push me to catch up to a lady that I was running with but slowed down. She explained the rest of the run to me and inspired me to push myself all the way to the end. I listened to her and am SO thankful she helped me out. I literally ran in like 7:30 and totally had walking off my mind. Like always my stupid left foot fell asleep and hurt really bad. I took my shoes off at 4 miles and finished the race in my socks! It was awesome!
My time was 02:07 which I guess I am happy with. I was shooting for under 2 hours but I was close, and this was my first race. I am sure on the next one I can cut that down!
I am so glad to have the support of my boyfriend, family, and friends! I could not of done it without them!
On August 27 I did a triathlon is Cheboygan. Kayaked 2 miles, mountain biked 8, and ran 4.5. I finished this one under 2 hours and had a ton of fun. I took 2nd out of 10 women and 2nd in my age group. My boyfriend and I both got “water bottle trophies” It was a super fun event, but really small. Everyone should check it out for next year!
