It was nice to meet everyone at the race on Saturday. The weather was a bit warm and I was tired from flying back from the UK on Friday. I think I made a mistake running there on Thrusday instead of Wednesday because I just did not feel that strong on Saturday. Regardless, I was out there to run and win my age bracket. At the start, I could just feel there was no power in my legs. I missed the 1 mile mark so I was not sure what I was running but could feel the humidity getting to me. Finally mile marker 2, clicked my watch at 14:20, not good, not bad. I was hoping to run all in under 7:00. At times I could still see the police car and the lead group so I was not too far back. I tried to go faster but no response, even the last 0.1 I just could not go faster. Finished in 22:36, 2nd in my age group and 13th overall. I guess not too bad. I still need to work on my endurance over the next few weeks. The race was well run and I hope everyone had a great time. We’ll see you at the next race, the Detroit Zoo 5k/10k, another well run race for a great cause.

Had JRA when I was 6, 12, and 15, but lucky for me there was no lasting damage to my joints. Started running at 40 to get in shape. I was about 175 pounds at 40 and 11 years later I am mostly around 150. Have run at least 10 marathons including Boston twice, about 50 shorter races, and a few duathlons over the years for fun. Started dieting the first year to improve my running times, after 10 years I am still setting PRs in all distances. In 2010, I set PR in the marathon, 1/2, and 5k. I would not consider my self fast but usually finish in the top 10% of a race. My blood work is great these days, in 2009 my HDL was 87 and LDL 78, the company doing the testing at work did not remember the last person to have higher HDL. Last year in was HDL 95 LDL 102 (need to watch it). They said what ever I was doing, keep doing it.
