I had an incredible amount of fun at the Senior Olympic bike time trial and 40k events. I am doing events out of my comfort zone. Things I don’t necessarily do well. I still wanted to try my best and I was thrilled with the effort I gave. I ended up 2nd in the 5k time trial (55-59) and 3rd in the 40k. The 40k was more like a time trial as I was dropped after just the 2nd of 18 laps! I was thrilled because I was within 5 seconds in my per lap times riding alone. I had an avg. speed of 22mph for the 5k and 19.5 for the 40k (with only 5 road rides and no time trial practice). In fact, 80% of my training is now achieved in under 20 minutes. This new training is science based and easy to learn and do. You can see the results above. Exercise for most anybody does not have to hurt nor totally exhaust you for you to be much fitter. I must say this though, to compete on a high level you should do more intense training. On some level I am amazed by my results. I used to train long hours and incredibly hard years ago but after my illness I have not wanted to place that stress upon myself. The ‘discovery” online of these new and old training protocols are simply outstanding. It was why I came back to personal training. To show people, especially us older folk, what is truly possible.
For the Kalamazoo Klassic Pump and Run event, I achieved one goal and came close to the other. My 5k time goal was to run under 22:30. I ran 22:45. My lifting goal (pump 60% of my body weight) was to get all 30 lifts. I achieved that. Net result was I won my age div. (55-59) by 4 seconds!. The reason I won was I lifted 1 more rep than 2nd place. His 5k time was 26 seconds faster but he lost 30 seconds to me on that one rep difference.
This weekend will be the State Games of Michigan right here in G.R. Ii will do the 50m and 100m sprints + the long jump. I have just begun to practice these events. This will be very interesting. I look forward to this new challenge.
Get out there and enjoy your body and mind! It’s fun and only as hard as you allow it to be!
