I can’t believe summer is going so fast. So far I’ve run two trail half marathons but that’s been about it as far as racing. At mile 8 during the first race I took a nasty fall which pulled my left hamstring so I had to slow down and tell my friends to go on ahead. For the last few miles I ran by myself and it gave me a lot of time to think about where I’ve been and how far I’ve come. Some eight years ago I was 230 pounds and even though I knew I needed to lose weight I just wasn’t willing to do what it took. At some point that all changed and here I found myself running a trail half, injured but determined to make it to the finish. I’m not sure where I gained all this determination and confidence but I have it now and it is through adversity where I learn what I’m capable of. So as I rounded the corner to the finish I thought to myself how great life is now and how I will never, ever, go back to what I was before!
Summer races and staying healthy
