Tackling the mid summer blahs

I have been feeling the mid summer blahs in my workouts(apparently not an uncommon thing reading these blogs!).  My current plan had the Reeds Lake Tri on Sept 8, still weeks away.  Well, this morning I took the plunge and added the Millennium Tri to my schedule on August 11th.  I already feel my mind racing and my body starting to tense up a bit.  My training plan needs to be redone, I need to take my training sessions up a notch, and I am starting to create and work checklists….  In short, this was obviously the right thing to do.

Of course, the highest priority is to get my new running form (from Good Form Running) into some sort of habit so people don’t think I am having some sort of fit (push the skateboard, push the skateboard, reset form).  At the very least the temps look like they are moderating at least a little, however I have to believe the wet suit is probably not required this time around.

I would love to write more, but I need to go do some laps….

Happily married for 24 years, father of 6 (ages 2 – 22), army veteran of the first gulf war, currently working as an engineering manager in aviation. In 2011 I made a choice. Never a natural athlete but with enthusiasm I am working towards losing weight and getting (back) in shape. I can proudly say I am a triathlete and just love the sport. You won't find me leading the pack but I hope to always have a positive presence and provide inspiration to anyone thinking about jumping in and trying one!

I definitely have had more of a summer slump than a winter slump. The heat definitely doesn’t help. Perhaps watching your motivation will motivate me!

It has something to do with meeting the goal that has been driving me for a year – that of finishing the GR TRI. I was so focused I couldn’t look past it. Well, here I am. The 1/2 beckons, but that is realistically a three year goal – by the way CONGRATS on you finishing! Next year, 3 Olympic distances, 2 years GR Marathon, 3 years at least the 1/2 for my 50th present to myself (I hopefully will be able to get a new bike by then!).
