Last summer was my first full summer in Michigan and as a result I tried to sign up for races and events in different parts of the state in an effort to experience what the “Pure Michigan” commercials were all about.
Hands down the most beautiful ride of the year was the Bike Benzie Tour. The ride starts at Crystal Mountain Resort and Spa and takes you around Benzie county and Crystal Lake, which has now become one of my favorite lakes in Michigan. The organizer and fellow riders were extremely friendly and very excited to have riders from the Southern part of the state. Two of the locals even took me on some detours to see some of the recommended area highlights like the Frankfort Pier and the Betsie lighthouse.
This year the event will take place this Sunday, August 19th and Crystal Mountain Resort and Spa has donated 3 awesome prizes:
- One night of lodging in a Cottage at Water’s Edge at Crystal Mountain.
- 18 holes of golf with shared cart for four people on Crystal Mountain’s Mountain Ridge course.
- 18 holes of golf with shared cart for four people on Crystal Mountain’s Betsie Valley course.

I did the Benzie Bike tour yesturday and it was great. Great roads, light traffic, and good people. Thanks for the heads up on this ride. Another ride you should try is the Leelanau Harvest tour starting in Suttons Bay. I believe it is september 16th. The route has changed some this year from last years ride. Lots of challanging hills and beautifull scenery.
