The Red Carpet Run 5k

On Wednesday night I ran the Red Carpet Run 5k in West Bloomfield, Michigan and finished with a time of 22:12.  It is essentially a spoof of the Oscars, and runners are encourage to show up in their finest attire, walk the red carpet…then run for 3.1 miles!

Although I take racing very seriously, I do not take life or myself too seriously, so for me this was a chance to have a little fun.  I donned a custome for the Detroit Turkey Trot and rather enjoyed just kind of running for fun so this event has been on my radar for months.

My charge was simple; find something decent to wear that was loose enough to run in.  Ultimately, I knew it wouldn’t matter because with temps at 85 degrees at the 7:00 pm start time, I was going to burn up regardless.

I like to wear hats when I go out so I picked a hat and top to go with the widest bottom legged slacks I have.

I got there with plenty of time to spare so I took in some sights before my warm-up.

Many people walked the red carpet to get photographed prior to the start of the race.

The lady with the walking canes walked the course and came in under an hour.  She received a huge applause when she crossed the finish line!  It was really a nice moment.  Despite all the bad things you hear about society, people do care.

Watch out now!

I went for a warm-up trot and five minutes into it stopped running.  I wasn’t feeling it at all.

I went to my truck to drink some water and ran again but nothing changed.  After a long day at work, mentally I was fried.

I headed for the start and decided to just run whatever I was going to run, and I wasn’t going to stress over it.

My splits were 6:59 at mile one and 14:39 through two miles and to be honest with you, I just wanted it to be over.

I am a morning runner, and I must say that I admire all who run after work.  I woke up at 3:25 Wednesday morning and could not go back to sleep, so that may have played a role in my apathy.  During the race the miles came and went fairly quickly but for the first time during a 5k, I did not kick at the end.  I was hot and bothered.  Running in slacks will do that to you!

Afterwards, I took a few snap shots of some finishers.

After it was over, I went to my truck and got my hat.  I am a lot of things, but I am no fool.  Running a hat in those temps would’ve been a disaster; it was hard enough on its own.

All of the finishers got a champagne flute; it had a little sumthin sumthin in it.  A nice touch I thought.

The age group awards went five deep, and my time was good enough for fourth place, and I got some real bling for it.

Take a look at this nugget.  Kim Kardashian eat your heart out!

Not bad huh?

Overall, it was a fun event and I had a good time.  Unfortunately, I just didn’t feel like running.

The spread of food afterwards was worthy of an Oscar itself, lots of cheeses, fruits, and veggies.  It looked really nice.

I will definitely do this race again next year; I mean after all, I like to be a part of a show and a show it was!

Put it on your to run list, you will not be disappointed.

There were some good times posted by some fast runners, but they all wore shorts.  Hmph.  I like the idea of wearing slacks, I mean who wears shorts to the Oscars.   ;-)

Thank you for reading.

The End.
