Three days after crossing the Finish Line at Michigan International Speedway (on my bike!) I am still in awe of the wonderful people, the incredible physical challenge, and the overwhelming feeling of mission from this amazing event.
Sunday I crossed the finish line in Brooklyn, Michigan, with my son Collin, 310 miles from our Friday start in Traverse City. Through a first day of rain, lightening and hail (yes, hail!) and two following days of perfect weather, we were joined by 900 other cyclists on the fully supported tour to raise funds for the Make a Wish Foundation of Michigan. While the physical challenge was difficult, the break stops were frequent and the company of the other inspiring riders made the time and the miles fly. The constant reminder that we were there for a purpose – to raise funds for medically-eligible children right here in Michigan awaiting their Wish – kept everyone pedaling and the mood upbeat all three days. At its conclusion, the tour raised over $2,030,000 for children served by our Michigan chapter of the Make a Wish Foundation. I encourage you all to think about riding this great tour next year. This was my second tour, and the first for my fifteen year-old son. We will BOTH be back. Join us in July 2013!!!
