Fall Back Into It

With Fall approaching, I am loving the weather. Finally it is cooling down, so outdoor activities like running and biking are so much more enjoyable. It is so darn hard to run in 100 degree Michigan summer weather (especially as a Canadian native who still has difficulty adjusting to this weather).

A few weeks ago, I did the Girl’s Best Friend triathlon in Vicksburg.

And it was so much fun! This was my second year doing this tri, and if you’re looking to do a tri for the first time, or if you just want a fun, laid back triathlon, this one is fabulous. It’s a women only tri with a nice, small (not intimidating) lake, a flat easy-to-follow bike trail, and a nice running trail through the woods. It’s not a super packed tri either, and the waves are distributed nicely so you’re not likely to get kicked in the face while swimming. I think most waves had only approx 50-60 people in them. And the transition area was so well organized and easy to enter/exit. Overall, a great tri, and I’ll be doing it again next year for the 3rd time.

Next up for me is the GR Bridge Run on Sunday, the 16th. Any other recommendations for fun Fall events?

Karen Lewis and I also did GBF in August. Karen took first place in her age group…I did not. Taking a nosedive on the trail run seems to be my forte on this particular race (I’m 2 for 2), mainly when I forget to take my sunglasses off heading into the dark narrow trails with lots of tree roots. But even with that, I still have a good time. Agree it is a great tri for first timers–just enjoyable all the way around.

Thank you for the information about the Tri. I may try that one for next year as my first ~ There is a run in October in Grand Rapids that is a great run. 5k and 10k. I did the 10k and the route was right along the Grand River. By far my favorite 10K.. Run through the Rapids is the name.. Check it out ~
