Road racing season is officially over. So for a little off season fun I thought I would check out the Priority Health Zumbathon at the Royal Oak Arts, Beats and Eats Festival over Labor Day weekend.
Show of hands of who has done Zumba before. Since I can’t see who is raising their hands here is the description from the official Zumba website, “Are you ready to party yourself into shape? That’s exactly what the Zumba® program is all about. It’s an exhilarating, effective, easy-to-follow, Latin-inspired, calorie-burning dance fitness-party™ that’s moving millions of people toward joy and health.” http://www.zumba.com/en-US/about/. I had know idea what I was getting into.
Based on what I experienced at the Zumbathon it was a huge outdoor dance party with 800 of my closest friends. I wasn’t sure if all 800 friends I invited would show up so I brought four Team Priority Health friends to the party.
Katie was the Zumba expert of the group. Not knowing what to expect we all decided to follow Katie. We claimed our spots in the back and got ready for the Zumba party to start. Thump, thump…the music starts pumping through the speakers. Clap…clap…people start clapping and jumping around. The party has now officially started. I’ve got a good feeling about this party. Click the Woo whoo! to watch a quick clip of how our first Zumba song ended. We look pretty good, Woo whoo!
We all start moving to the music. Doing our best to figure out what’s going on. Whatever was going on it didn’t matter because we were all having a blast. Laughing, dancing and enjoying the music. After a while I thought I was an expert, so I go on one of the side platforms to show off my skills. Funny, up on the platform my skills weren’t as good as I thought.
Over all this was a GREAT time. I can see why hundreds of people came to get their Zumba on at the Priority Health Zumbathon. What a fun way to stay active.
