On Saturday I participated in the Reeds Lake TRI in EGR bringing my inaugural season to a close and what a great close it was! With my wife cheering me from the sidelines I accomplished my third TRI (good ring to that). The weather was great and I really enjoyed myself. I had set a personal goal of 2:10 and came in a tad over 2:15, so kudos to me.
The unexpected was several items: the great sun rise right in the outward leg of the swim (I still can’t say if I ever saw the turn buoy), the wet suit that just wouldn’t come off, gave me a bit of a chuckle or was that a tear of frustration, the sun (duplicate theme) that blinded going down the steep hill towards the hair pin turn, and of course the number of hills on the bike course (driven the route a number of times, how come I never noticed those things before?!).
The thankful was no bike issues (if it has ever happened to you, it is very expected), the great temperature, some great cheering crowds and no physical malady or issues to fight through.
The highlight was rounding that last corner and seeing the finish as I actually found a last dash of speed to cross the line looking good.
With the season over (the aches and pains not totally gone) I am left thinking about next year and trying not to give into the temptation taking a break for a week / month / months. So, for the GR TRI should I go for the Olympic or Sprint distance…….

Nice way to finish up your season, Mark. Sounds like you really enjoyed it. And when you enjoy it, you keep comin’ back for more. That’s a good thing.
