Training for a Half Marathon

I am currently training for the Half Marathon in Detroit/Canada in October. Running short runs during the week and a longer one on the weekend. Last Saturday my mind was saying NO DONT DO IT but my body said get off the couch…

After several hours on the couch I decided to go for 10 miles.  It was the most horrible run I have ever had ~ It took me 2 hours… I struggled the entire day just feeling off and possibly dehydrated a little. Took 2 days off and on Tuesday decided to run 4 miles on a treadmill. After 2.5 miles I hopped off.. WHERE WAS MY MOJO !  I started to feel maybe my running days were coming to an end.

I had never felt like that before.. I was soooo sad and struggled that I used to enjoy it so much and 1 horrid run was going to dictate my therapy sessions..LOL

I went to the gym 2 days later  set the treadmill for 6 miles. IT WAS AWESOME ..

Next Day 4 miles.. Felt even better      I had signed up for the bridge run for Sunday and said to myself this could make a break the deal for me…

GREAT ROUTE, GREAT WEATHER, GREAT RUN !!!

I ran a pace of 8.59 for 10 miles.. HOLY COW   I have never ran that fast for that many miles.

I am back in the game and feeling great !!! Don’t get discouraged because of a bad day or even a bad week. Embrace it and learn from it.. Because there is something AMAZING out there waiting for you !

The timing could not be better for you! I am in a similar rut albeit injury related and like you, I am hanging in there. I will be running the full in Detroit if all goes well. Hope to see you there!

Great job! Recently I have had a few awful runs where I had to face up to the fact that I wasn’t helping my training by pushing on. I think that is a hard thing for athletes to get. Glad your mojo is back!

I have so been there, too! And you are smart to stop when it isn’t going well because there is nothing advantageous to forcing yourself to do something that feels awful… we run because it is fun right? Glad things are back on track for you!!! Good luck with your 1/2!!!
