So, I have fond memories of the 2012 bike racing season with TEAM PRIORITY HEALTH – some great rides and race moments. BUT, for a few riders, the brief rest is over and it’s on to the next season – the Nordic Ski Racing season. I love bike racing, but I have to say Nordic skiing, on most days, is the greatest sport on earth, and also the toughest. Constant output like a runner, upper body/lower body, big power like a rower or swimmer, tactics like a bike race, technique/finesse like no other, age somewhat equalized, effort at cold temps, I rest my case…and the courses and snow are beautiful.
The posting below is on the NordicSki Racer.com website which is the hub of the Michigan Nordic racing community – which is an excellent circuit that is very competitive. If you’ve ever thought about getting into XC skiing or XC racing, this is the clinic for you…the agenda will adjust slightly, but I’ll target it to a little over 1 hour, and then some demo. Feel free to send to anyone else who might be interested…
TEAM PRIORITY HEALTH skiers Jon Morgan and Dan Yankus will host a Nordic XC Ski clinic October 20 at 2:30pm in the Possum Hollow Picnic Shelter at Kensington Metro Park. Look for the Giant banners and TPH flags. Target audience are bike racers (the MBRA) and runners/triathletes, but anyone is welcome. The goal is to increase interest in the fantastic sport of Nordic skiing for athletes from other sports seeking winter or x-training activities, and to promote the excellent Michigan Cup Nordic Ski racing circuit. The basic agenda is below:
- XC Basics
- Training – Dry Land and on-snow
- Racing Prep
- Brief Dry Land Demo
- Next steps / second clinic
If time allows, we’ll demonstrate some brief dry-land training and technique.
I’m hoping for a crowd…ciao.
