Always up for a challenge

I’m always up for a challenge and enjoy being active with different people and different events.  I reached out to my husband’s aunt, Paula, who is an avid cyclist in the Traverse City area to see if she wanted to do an organized bike event.  I still consider myself a fairly new cyclist even though I have been doing it for 3 years now.  I had never done an organized event until 2 weeks ago.  She suggested doing the Leelanau Harvest tour which has different mileage to choose from.  We agreed to do 65 miles.  I have been biking all summer, but mostly once a week with some friends averaging just over 20 miles.  One time this past spring I biked 70 miles but it was broken up by a long lunch break and was on the Kal Haven trail, a flat trail from Kalamazoo to South Haven.  Paula warned me that it would likely be much hillier than I was used to.  Always up for a challenge I was ready to do it.  Almost 6 hours later I was done.  They had several food stops along the course and I noticed people definitely took their time at these stops.  No one seemed to be in a hurry.  It was a beautiful day to be outside enjoying new countryside for me.  I loved seeing the orchards, vintage barns, water, and hills, lots of hills!  At the end of the event someone told me about ODRAM (one day ride across Michigan) which is 143 miles.  So now this just might have to be my new challenge for next year!  If anyone has done ODRAM, please share your experience.  Thanks!

I'm 43, from Kalamazoo, wife and mother of two kids (ages 9 and 7). I enjoy running and biking. Each year I try to at least run one half marathon in the spring and one in the fall. As a family we enjoy traveling, going to the beach, biking, playing with our puppy, and just being outside.

ODRAM sounds fun! Might have to look into that one… Way to push yourself outside of your comfort zone Lisa!
