My Health Journey

This is a tough question because I feel different people have been instrumental in my health journey at different points in my life.  My parents initially instilled exercise and outdoors into my life when I was young through their encouragement of sports participation and by example.  My parents have walked 3 miles a day ever since I can remember.  So exercise every day has been normal in my life.   Come to find out my parents initially started walking to have a break from 6 kids at the time, so it was their way of relieving and dealing with stress.  Then my profession became a huge part of my health journey as I encourage exercise, movement and health on patients every day.  And now my son is instrumental in encouraging me to continue to exercise, run and eat healthy because I want to be around a long time to see him grow up and have kids of his own.   But it is a struggle.  I always feel better after exercising, sometimes it’s just getting myself downstairs or out the door because once I start I always want to do more.  I also need to remind myself at times to prepare meals/snacks because when I don’t it’s so easy to get stuck eating something not healthy.  And I get encouragement from other groups I belong to or friends having the same struggles.

I am originally from the east side of Michigan and have lived in Grand Rapids for 13 years now. My husband and I have been married for 6 1/2years and live in Belmont. I enjoy running and pretty much any activity outside during all 4 seasons! I'm hoping for some snow this winter to enjoy skiing and snowshoeing. I am also a physical therapist and enjoy working with athletes, especially runners! We are expecting our first baby in July 2017 and are beyond excited!
