What the flu?!

After a good 5-day stint of the flu, I finally got a run in this evening, after some motivation from a friend.

The flu is no joke.  I’ve had it once before about 2 years ago, and let me tell you, it really knocks you down.  It makes it hard to keep up with your goals when you have no desire or energy to put forth to them.  But this evenings run felt so good.  It was 4 miles on the treadmill, which isn’t always fun, but I felt really in tune with that treadmill.  My breathing was under control, and I only had to cough a few times.  I was glad that I had seen a post from a friend and got my butt in motion, because I felt so much better afterwards.

Not to preach, but if you haven’t, get out there and get your flu shot.  I know that it is said to only be 30% effective towards this year’s strain, however, it will still help to lessen the symptoms that you may encounter and help protect those elderly individuals or immune-compromised people in our lives.  Tamiflu can be taken, if diagnosed within the first 48 hours, however, only lessens the symptoms by a day or two.  I took that when I had it before, but chose to ride it out this time, and the duration was about the same.  Equally awful unfortunately.   So enough about that.

I hope everyone is into the swing of things this new year, and making the most of all your opportunities!

I grew up, and currently live, with my husband and two boys in Hudsonville. I graduated from GVSU with a degree in exercise science in 2003, but found myself back in college, achieving my second bachelors in nursing in 2013. I'm now a nurse at Helen DeVos Children's Hospital, and can't imagine myself anywhere else! My love is my family, of course first, and then running!
