What's your history?
I have been racing for 2 years. I was inspired to get involved in cycling by my dad. I trained my first year for a 300 mile 3 day charity ride for Make-A-Wish Foundation from Traverse City to Ann Arbor. Priority Health is my first team. I have found it to be a great experience. My first year I was the Cat 4 State Champion and had a blast racing with the team. My favorite race is Tour of Kensington Valley.
Tell us about a memorable race experience.
Towards the end of Tour of Kensington Valley, I was in a break with 5 other women. It was nearing the end of the race and I was thinking I can win, and I need to win. The finish line was at the top of a climb. I followed one lady as the group of 5 moved to a group of 3. Once I was half way up the hill, I decided it was now or never. I changed gears and began to attack gearing up for the sprint. I was in pain, but I wanted the win and was not going to let the others take it from me. As I began to get more tired, I knew the others were getting closer. I gave it one last push and make it over the line first. That experience made me realize I could do anything as long as I stayed focused.
What are 3 adjectives that describe your approach to your sport?
Exhilarating, challenging, helpful.
What are nutritional tips you use to gain optimum performance?
I love smoothies for a snack. For recovery, I make sure I eat something with protein. I also drink lots of water.

Give us some inspiration!
I am motivated to be an athlete or to keep working hard by the fun I have riding and running. I feel amazing after a workout, and working out can help relieve stress. It is a break from homework and other things. I try to make it a treat for me. I also have great people to work out with, and that is excellent motivation. Being an athlete just makes me feel good. That is my main motivation for overcoming a challenge.

What is your single most important goal this year?
To prepare myself for Ironman Wisconsin.

The thing I love most about competing is ____________.
you always have the opportunity to push yourself to your limits.

After a long few weeks of ankle problems beginning with the Kalamazoo marathon, I am finally back on the bike. Riding has never felt so good. It may take awhile to fully heal, but just getting out there bit by bit is great!! I will be back racing as soon as possible!

Running in the Blizzard

This past tuesday, a blizzard hit the mid-west. As the snow fell, I decided all I wanted to do was go out and run in it. After convincing a friend to join me on my excursion we took on the storm.
