CKline829 Born and raised in NE Grand Rapids. Graduated from Forest Hills Northern High School in 2003. Went to MSU for a couple years ... not exactly the best years of my life, so ended up at CC for grade increases, then graduated from GVSU with a BS in Psychology. Not at all working in the field of Psychology -- I work in Inventory Control at Williams Form Engineering Corporation. Got marred in August 2015. Healthier and happier than ever!
Tell us a little about yourself. My life centers around three things: Faith, Family, Fitness. Faith comes first -- without Christ, I am nothing! I pushed Him out of my life for quite a few years, and my life went down the drain quickly. Now that I've reconnected and recommitted to Him - life couldn't be better! Family -- My family has been with me through all the ups and downs in life, and they always will be. I'm incredibly close with all of them and I consider myself very fortunate for that :) Family isn't all blood, by the way -- I have many friends that I consider family as well! Fitness -- Need I say more?! ;) Living a healthy lifestyle with proper nutrition (most days haha) and staying physically active has really helped me find self-respect. Being a large victim of self-doubt, I have used fitness to push myself beyond my mental boundaries and prove myself capable of far more than I tell myself I am! Now I'm simply addicted - I love the feeling of sore muscles, sweat pouring off my face, and being short of breath from a challenging workout! It's all about pushing new limits/taking on new challenges, but having fun on the way :) (even if that limit/challenge is, "Okay, take it easy for a bit, Woman!" haha)
What inspires you to reach your goals?Competition against myself! As mentioned in the "about me" section - I love proving to myself that, "Yes, Crissy, YOU CAN" when my brain tries to tell me, "No, Crissy, you can't." Plus it's great inspiring others!! It's amazing the inspiration people find to work toward new goals when they see how happy achieving yours has made you :)
How would you motivate someone who wants to start to improve their health? When you start living healthy you'll *feel* better! More energy, happier, and you won't have to wear baggy clothes when you go out in public ;) Start somewhere small! Cut out a bit of butter or salt on your next baked potato. Put on some good shoes and head out for a walk. Do a squat and a sit-up before bed. Something is better than nothing! Everyone is capable of SO MUCH MORE than they give themselves credit for! If you're afraid of failing - good! FIGHT THAT FEAR! You *can* accomplish it - you just have to push through it. I'll be right there to hold you accountable and encourage you during the rough spots as well as the good times. I can say from experience: On the road to your goal you'll get healthier, resulting in feeling better all-around... and *WHEN* you accomplish your goal, you'll feel like Superman :)
What is your personal motto when it comes to being fit?I have several! My biggest thing: It's not about the scale, it's about how I *feel*. A few more I really like: "Push to your max, then push a little further", "fat lasts longer than flavor" (well, I kinda hate that one, but it's true lol), "don't give up - you'll just have to start all over again"
Tell us something you have learned about nutrition. There are so many myths out there to be broken!! (1) It's not complicated! (2) Yes, you will have cravings at first, BUT once you make eating healthier a habit, you slowly quit craving the junk. It *does* get easier! (3) Eating whole foods is more satisfying AND gives you more energy. (4) Fat is NOT BAD -- as long as it's healthy fat (avocados, peanut butter, hummus). (5) There is such thing as eating too little -- you'll slow down your metabolism and it's not going to help you lose weight. And if it does, you'll gain it back in a heartbeat as soon as you start eating again. You need to eat to fuel your body!
What sports or activities do you participate in?Running, weight-training, swimming (still a beginner!), spinning (will be biking when the weather allows!)
Why did you get involved with this activity?A friend asked me to run the 2009 RBR 10K with her - I thought she was insane, but I did it anyway. Been running ever since :) I'm in my third season with Priority Health/Gazelle Sports Run Camp, so I'm only three seasons in to distance running but I absolutely love it.

A Triathlon Dream

Deep down inside, I’ve wanted to be ‘hardcore enough’ to be a triathlete since high school. The issue was I couldn’t fathom the idea of voluntarily sticking my face and body in an oversized bowl of fish poop and slimy ankle-grabbing grass, to get out and let it all absorb into my skin while I […]
