Pete Skellenger I grew up in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan (aka God's Country) before moving to Kalamazoo, Mi to study biomedical science and work in bike shops. Following graduation, I worked as a mechanic for various cycling teams, rode bikes, started a wood art business, and traveled to art shows and bike races on the weekends. I then moved back to the UP and attended nursing school at NMU in Marquette. Currently, I ski, ride bikes, and work as a Registered Nurse in the Emergency Department and Intensive Care Unit at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City, MI.

What‘s your history?I have been riding and racing bikes since 2000 and started nordic skiing in 2011 and quickly became addicted. I competed in 4 ski marathons that year and 5 in 2012. My favorite nordic race is the Noquemanon in Marquette for its awesome terrain and killer course!
Tell us about a memorable race experience.The American Birkebeiner, with 8000 racers, is maybe the craziest race I have ever done and Birkie fever runs high all year!
What are 3 adjectives that describe your approach to your sport?razzle,dazzle, fun
What are nutritional tips you use to gain optimum performance?It's tough to beat a stiff coffee and an almond butter/jam sandwich!
Give us some inspiration!Given my line of work, I am motivated by the idea that life is short!
What is your single most important goal this year?I'd like to move up to the elite ski team with a result this season and I'd simply like to goose 'er... every day!

Ridin’ the rail… to work!
