Avoiding Injuries

The most important rules for bike safety are:

  • avoid high traffic routes
  • wear a helmet
  • stay hydrated

Wearing a helmet

Head injuries are devastating and often fatal. Wearing a bicycle helmet can prevent most cycling related injuries. Make sure to buy a helmet that fits well, is sturdy, and has a CPSC ( Consumer Product Safety Commission) sticker.

Get lots of fluids
Hot weather and inadequate fluids can often cause cramping. Be sure to drink lots of water or replenishing drinks, avoiding high-sugar drinks or colas.

Start out slow
Make sure to start out slow to avoid aches and pains.
