Getting a bike

If you're ready to start cycling, you'll first need a bike, in good working order, that fits you and provides a comfortable ride.

Select the right bike
Different types of bikes are built for various riding preferences. Find the one that's right for you:

  • Road bikes are built for speed on paved surfaces with thin tires and low handlebars.
  • Mountain bikes are good for recreational cyclists who ride paved to rough trails with fat tires and flat bars for a more upright posture.
  • Cross or hybrid bikes, with narrower tires, are a easier to ride on pavement than mountain bikes. They're a good choice it you're riding routes with lots of hills.
