Despite national emergence, Hood Cycling Classic has still been won by regional
talent since its inception in 2003. The 2005 edition of the race was the first
year the US governing body of cycling recognized the event with a NRC (National
Race Calendar) designation.
That designation attracted the top North American teams competing for points counting toward the overall NRC title. The Mt. Hood Cycling Classic is a stage race, the same type of event made famous stateside by seven-time Tour de France champion American Lance Armstrong.
