RACE REPORT
New Britain Criterium, New Britain, CT
July 9, 2006
After a warmup race in Attleboro, MA the day before, Robbie and Ted King were ready to get a result at the New Britain Criterium with its generous prize list. Held on a winding, mile-long city park loop with no sharp corners, strategy and tactics were going to play a larger role than bike handling. The brothers took turns getting into breakaways. Ted was a strong motivator in a promising break which lasted the majority of the race until Mark McCormack single-handedly brought it back within spitting range. Almost immediately another went, and with diverse team representation, Robbie saw an opportunity and jumped across. The break of 10 worked together flawlessly and held a 25 second gap on the field for the last 10 laps of the race. With half a lap to go, Robbie attacked, catching his break by surprise. They hesitated, and by then the race was over with Robbie taking the victory by a wide margin.
