RACE REPORT

Union Vale RR, Union Vale, NY
July 16, 2006

Sunday’s hilly road race, held in Union Vale, NY had a much larger field including top finishers in the recently held USCF elite national championship road race, and former and current members of the U-23 National Team. On the first significant climb, Pat Walsh of CCB attacked with gusto bringing Robbie with him. Over the next lap a handful more riders, including Teddy, bridged across, until a somewhat lopsided, Kenda-Raleigh heavy, 9-man breakaway was formed. With a few mid-race exceptions, the break continued to work together fairly smoothly until the 5th and final lap, where Teddy accelerated off the front up a long hill. Dan Vaillancourt (CCB) followed, and shortly after that, Robbie countered a chase by Jay Harpp (Kenda-Raleigh) to launch himself to the two leaders. From there the brothers took turns attacking the outmatched Vaillancourt until Robbie successfully rode away, and soloed five miles to the finish which had a rugged two mile 12% climb. Teddy got a free ride to the base, climbed with Vaillancourt, then dusted him in an uphill sprint for 2nd place.
