Friends and Teammates
I was stung by a bee(s?) several times yesterday afternoon. That got me to thinking. Not about being stung. I have a weird history with being stung. No. Getting stung made me think about what I'd been doing, standing with the door open, virtually inviting the bee(s?) into our house and talking to my friend. Well, not a friend, a teammate, but not a teammate either, a friend.
Ann was at the door and we were chatting, catching up, talking about our friends and ourselves. It got me to thinking, what is a teammate? It certainly doesn't describe my relationship with Ann or any of my other teammates. A teammate sounds like an office mate or co-worker or some other kind of professional relationship. When you travel together, train together, race together, plan things together and have some of those plans go off like plans and others go 'unplanned' you are around each other when you and they are experiencing a lot of very intense feelings in, sometimes, dangerous situations. You learn things about each other that you wouldn't learn about anybody if you were 'just' office mates or friends.
So, thanks to all of my teammates and good luck to Jen and Laura this week at Nationals!
Peace,
Dawn
