Back to running

After taking 3 months off after Boston to let my hamstring heal I am back.  Long story shortI tore two tendons from the bone on the right side and only found out how bad it was a month out from Boston.  Knowing I could do further damage I saw a surgeon who ruled out surgery and also running Boston but he quickly found out I could not be talked out of it :)  I went, I ran, I walked and I hobbled my way to that finish line.  By far my worst marathon time but by far the proudest I’ve ever been!  I was in excruciating pain, I could hardly lift my right foot off the ground by mile 20 but I did what I had to do to finish.  I then proceeded to eat two cannolis!  So now here I find myself back at square one.  I am back to running and have run as far as 11 miles but my speed is no where near where I was when I qualified for Boston.  I have to admit though that it’s kind of fun to set new goals and accomplish them.  I’ve run two 5K’s and turned out decent times so I will continue to build on those.  My hope is I can re-qualify for Boston at some point but with this kind of injury it remains to be seen if I can run those speeds again.  Time will tell but until then I’ll have fun running shorter races and reminding myself why I fell in love with running in the first place!

    Definitely listen to your body, but sounds like you are back on track! Have fun with the 5K’s and I hope your hamstring continues to heal!
